Carefree participates in Spirit’s Virtual Silent Auction

The Carefree business community generously stepped up to support Spirit in the Desert by donating dozens of items for the Virtual Silent Auction fund raiser held the third week in May, 2021. More than 32 merchants, restaurants, individuals, organizations, and friends of Spirit contributed to the successful, first-ever, Virtual Silent Auction.

Participants bid on gifts, home goods, accessories, vacations, a new Apple watch, restaurant gift certificates, and a gourmet meal for ten prepared by Spirit in the Desert’s Chef, Zoe Leonard. More than 100 bidders supported the fundraiser, with 49 claiming at least one item.

Spirit in the Desert’s community of supporters and retreaters is both local and international. In the two years prior to the pandemic, participants came from 41 countries. Ironically, the initial building on the campus, constructed in 1963 by the founders of Carefree, Tom Darlington and K.T. Palmer, housed the well-known International Restaurant. Spirit’s local connection is with retreaters who come from all parts of the Valley of the Sun.

Thanks to all who donated and purchased during the Virtual Silent Auction. The event was an energetic boost to re-opening the center and once again welcoming retreaters to Spirit in the Desert to connect, refresh and renew.
