What to Expect When You Visit Spirit in the Desert

Is this your first visit? Welcome! Spirit in the Desert Retreat Center welcomes all people to experience this oasis in the Sonoran Desert. The staff is dedicated to ensuring that your visit is the best of any retreat center you have ever visited.

Spirit in the Desert hosts programs and retreats for participants of all faiths to experience reconciliation, renewal and healing. Its peaceful environment encourages positive communication and productivity. The campus also features sacred spaces for guests to enjoy: a Labyrinth, Prayer Path, and the Islands of Silence Meditation Walk.

All bedrooms have private bathrooms, a patio or balcony, and most enjoy spectacular mountain views. Also available for your enjoyment are a heated swimming pool with gorgeous views and a Jacuzzi for relaxation.

Spirit’s chefs serve homemade, healthy meals which can be eaten inside the dining room or on the adjoining spacious patio.

To check in after business hours, ring the bell for the night host at the main entrance of the Estrem (Registration) Building.

New safety protocols are in place due to COVID-19

Labyrinth and Islands of Silence

Spirit’s Labyrinth, Campbell Pathway, and Islands of Silence Meditation Walk are open to the public during daylight hours. They are located at the back of the campus. If you enter the facilities via the front parking lot, follow the paved road to your left that leads to the back parking lot. Finger labyrinths are available at the registration desk.

If you are bringing a group, please check with the registration desk in advance by calling 480.488.5218 to ensure another group is not inconvenienced.

Personal Retreats

You are welcome to stay overnight, even if you are not part of a scheduled retreat. If the dining room is open, guests may take their meals in the dining room at the regularly scheduled times. If Spirit is not hosting a retreat, the dining room is closed, and guests are responsible for their own meals. Guests may bring their own food; refrigerators and microwaves are available in the Estrem Building.

Spirit in the Desert is not a hotel. There is no room service and no television or streaming. This is a tranquil, holy place for reflection.
