Psalm 67:4-7…“The earth has yielded its increase; God, our God, has blessed us. May God continue to bless us; let all the ends of the earth revere him.” vss. 6-7
The psalmist today gives us an insight that we should fold into our hearts during these dark and contentious times. Yes, people are showing themselves to be liars and untrustworthy. Yes, billionaires continue to manipulate the government and the economy to amass even more wealth for themselves and their families. But we can never allow human brokenness to obscure God’s goodness!
We live on a planet unlike any other in the universe, one that has nurtured life in unbelievable ways. And because the earth is uniquely fashioned for habitation and has yielded its increase, humans have prospered. We have been blessed by God. There is an equilibrium between the natural world and quantum forces that holds all things together in a way that can not be replicated. All things work together for good.
And because this is true, we cannot allow the corrupting influence of humanity to destroy our appreciation for this beautiful blue dot in the Milky Way. As the psalmist prays, “May God continue to bless us; let all the ends of the earth revere him.” Every day gives us a multitude of opportunities to offer praise and thanksgiving for the wonder and beauty that surrounds us. Earth is a good place to live! Who in their right minds would ever want to live on Mars?!
