Psalm 107:1-3 …“O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever.” vs. 1

As we move on in the season of Lent, it’s good to see how the psalmist regarded God. We spend so much time in speculation about the Lord’s identity that it’s easy to forget the essential truth that is at the core of God’s being. Not only is God omnipotent, majestic and holy, God is good! And more than that, God’s love for us is everlasting and steadfast. Nothing, not even our own bad behavior, not even death itself, will be able to separate us from that love. And for that good news, there is no more appropriate response than thanksgiving. No wonder the people of God, from the very beginning, have always organized their worship to include opportunities for thanksgiving. No matter what the circumstances of our days, no matter what kind of issues we’re facing, our prayers and praise should be full of thanks. Of course it’s hard to remember that in the midst of turmoil. Too often our prayers begin with complaints and petitions. But when we’re done with our whining and pause for breath, it would nice to offer up at least a postscript of thanks. We have been given so much…and it’s a privilege to simply be alive in this spectacular universe. And when we have a grateful spirit, our friends and families are blessed! No one like to hang around with whiners!

Thought for the Day: When do I whine the most?
