Genesis 1:1-5

God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.” vs. 5

Well, it’s here! A new year stretches out in front of us with 365 brand new days for our use and enjoyment. It’s a time for resolutions and planning…maybe a diet or exercise regime. Or perhaps there’s an adventure awaiting! We could even have a plan for improving relationships or making a change in our profession or career…and maybe this year we won’t make a mess of things! Naturally there will be surprises, maybe a tragedy or two or a bit of suffering. We really don’t have a clue about what’s going to happen to us or our loved ones. There’s so much that’s out of our control…and then there’s the fact that our control isn’t nearly as complete as we think it is. But that doesn’t mean we can’t make plans for change. After all repentance is an ongoing part of kingdom living and God knows there’s plenty of room for self-improvement. One thing we do know for sure is that the One who spoke the first day into existence will be present in every day of life that remains for us. God is Light, the very source and sustainer of life. Because of God we will know love and hope and joy in every one of those mysterious days that lie ahead. It’s because of God’s presence that we can dare to say “Happy New Year,” and know it will be so!

Thought for the Day: What’s my main resolution today?
