Justin Barkhuff

Justin Barkhuff

Justin Barkhuff is passionate about helping mission-driven organizations thrive through innovation. He leads University-wide technology initiatives at California Lutheran University, where he serves as Director of Enterprise Applications. His work lives at the intersection of strategy, systems, and service, with a focus on making complex tools accessible and useful for everyone.

In recent years, Justin has led campus-wide efforts to modernize digital infrastructure, streamline operations, and launch a multi-phase AI initiative designed to benefit every corner of campus life. This work contributed to California Lutheran University being named the 2025 Tambellini Group Future Campus Award winner for Impact on Learning Outcomes and Experience—an honor recognizing innovative institutions that leverage emerging technologies to build a more sustainable, efficient, and inclusive future.

Justin has presented at national conferences and regularly collaborates with colleagues and technology partners across the country. While his day-to-day work is in higher education, he sees clear parallels between the needs of universities and those of ministry—both are mission-driven communities whose success relies on strong relationships, clear communication, and wise use of resources. He brings a practical, people-centered approach to AI, helping leaders explore how it can be a catalyst for creativity, efficiency, and deeper engagement in their calling.

Together with colleagues Felecia Boone, Catherine Slabaugh and Carla Christopher, Justin Barkhuff facilitates the Executive Skills for Church Leaders retreat in January, 2026 at Spirit in the Desert.
