Supporters Celebrate Spirit in the Desert
On Sunday afternoon, April 22, 2018, over 130 supporters of Spirit in the Desert met at the retreat center for wine and appetizers, an Italian inspired dinner, and music by the Carolyn Eynon Singers.
After dinner, and spirited conversations, the crowd gathered in the Ravenscroft Chapel where Executive Director, Richard Andersen acknowledged the presence of members from many area congregations. When called on to identify themselves, the attendees, not only raised their hands, they enthusiastically made sure everyone knew their congregation was represented. Mr. Andersen also introduced three new Board Members, Nola Mellstrom, Doug Yock, and Glenn Schrader.
The Carolyn Eynon Singers, a group of 24 women and men singers, have been performing choral music at the highest artistic standard in the Valley of the Sun for eleven years. The evening’s performance was a “Broadway Bonanza” of twelve familiar songs from shows like The Sound of Music, South Pacific, Gypsy, and Mama Mia.
A standing ovation at the end of the concert, showed the audience’s enjoyment of the concert and, also, appreciation for Spirit in the Desert that is providing retreat experiences for more than 5,000 people each year.
