Acts 2:14-21

“No, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel: ‘In the last days it will be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.’” vss. 17-18

As the disciples lived through the excitement and turmoil of those first Spirit-filled days, their familiarity with the words of Joel convinced them that the last days were coming. With the outpouring of the Spirit on Pentecost a new chapter had begun. From now on the Holy Spirit would be loose in the world and God only knew what was going to happen. It was totally unpredictable. Even women and old men would be a part of it. No one would be left out. The Spirit would range through every nation and every demographic, prodding and pushing people into relationship with the Christ, and bringing forth fruit in the most unlikely places…and that is exactly what has happened. Who knows how long these last days will be? They could stretch on forever…all we know for sure, is that the Spirit is never going to go away. Forms will change. Worship styles will evolve. Boundaries will be erased. But the Church of Christ will continue to be the workshop of God’s Holy Spirit, and human beings will daily die and rise with Christ to live as reborn daughters and sons of God.

Thought for the Day: Why can’t the Church just stay the same?
